We donated $250 to this brilliant cause… but it also guarantees we can grab Cameron Sinclair for a few minutes if funded. We’ve been trying to nail him down for an interview for months now but he may be even be harder to catch up with than Obama. Here’s hoping he will do an interview for Archiculture while he is in New York in a couple weeks.
5 teaching fellows in Detroit recently bought up a $500 dollar house and used it as a means for exploring architectural ideas to dilapidated properties. Each individual took on some portion of the house and applied their own idea about experiencing the space. The house was eventually handed over to Design99, a community-focused design group. see article.
A close friend and talented collaborator, Marah Strauch is making the final push on her feature-length documentary Gravity. She has unbelievable access to archival footage of the originators of base jumping and is creating a brilliant story to make these people come to life on screen. Please check out the clip and help spread the word to make sure she finishes soon.
I just signed up for an account and am interested to see how something like this could be used for micro-payments at street showings of a movie. It could also come in handy at a funding event.
Bummed we can’t go to this tomorrow due to a shoot. Hopefully a lot of it will be available online after and we’ll definitely get an ear full about it from our friends. Check out the video above to get a sense for the great work these guys are gathering to promote discussion.
Chances are you probably have no clue who Eli Broad is as a person. However, you are probably familiar with the slew of projects he has help fund including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Los Angeles Opera and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Check out this interactive map of projects that he has been involved with.
I have not been able to check this film out yet. Love their crowd-funding concept and the 50 min Making-Of short on their website. Have any of you seen it? What did you think?
Jason Sadler has found his own clever way of generating income, he sells advertising space on his shirt. He founded www.iwearyourshirt.com over a year ago and estimates that it generated roughly $85,000 last year.
Brilliant concept with more details on the project here.
We also need to desperately and creatively raise money to finish our film… This reminds me of how we tried to raise money through a 24/7 webcam during production with paid drawings and quotes on the floor. That was a failure but you can see some of the goofy clips here.
Thanks for the link on the Uniform Project Yuliya.
10,000 volunteers pitched in to help build the Atlantic Avenue Condominiums in Brownsville NY. The 41 story building is Habitat for Humanities largest project completed to date. The condominium was built for 13 million dollars and is meant to give lower-income individuals an opportunity at home ownership.
