Buildings as Screens

The mind wanders at the true potential of this technology beyond the facade as a flat surface for visuals. Imagine buildings responding to adjacent programmatic uses and environmental conditions to better fit daily community needs. Maybe this would enable our buildings to have longer life spans as their usability could adapt to ever-changing, site specific needs. Quite the opposite to past form-fetish based architectural designs… Brutalism anyone?

New Airport in Manhattan?

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Looks like momentum is building for a new airport in Manhattan which will reinvent our famous Central Park into a modern transportation hub. This will finally let NYC jump into the 21st Century with a truly accessible airport. Visions of Robert Moses slashing his forward thinking highway system through neighborhood all over the city come to mind. No more subways and bus transfers to Laguardia or 2 hour cab rides to JFK. Check out the Foundations website for lots of amazing details - sign the petition, project vision, dedicate an airport bench, airport map, etc.

Be sure to follow the airport’s future progression via twitter and to see the hundreds of supportive post from folks on their facebook page.
